About

I'm right now in the process of developing new reserach projects, hopefully postdoc outside Sweden.

I am interested in historical geography, cultural geography, homes (first and second), place construction and transformation, rural geography, heritage, national identities, materiality, representations, music/sonic place construction and performance.

The research for my PhD have been dealing with the material and immaterial transformation and construction of places by studying crofts (Sw. torp) in Sweden. Within hundred years crofts have transformed from being a poor mans homes and associated with hard work, poverty and farming, to a situation today where they are being restored, idealised and filled with leisure time and dreams. The actual happening of this transformation is in the heart of my research. The transformation is studied through the materiality of the croft, representations and conceptualisations of crofts and the practices of its users and through how, when and with what consequences these different dimensions are interconnected and influence each other.

On a larger scale, the transformations of the crofts can be seen as a part of the changing countryside into landscapes of leisure and of urban influences, but also as a part of discussions on heritage, collective memory and how we perceive and use places and the past.
